Show MISS SHIPP'S RECITAL PROVES RARE TREAT. A good sized audience greeted the appearance of Miss Lillie E. Shipp at tho tabernacle laBt evening. The young lady made a charming appearance, appear-ance, 'was unassuming and graceful in all her movements. Her songs were those which appeal most strongly to tho people of the West, being old familiar melodies, for tho most part and sung in a sweet, clear voice. Sho encompassed the high notes with no apparent effort. The excerps Bung by her from the operas Mignon and Madam Butterfly were thoroughly enjoyed by tho aud-ienco, aud-ienco, and her manner of portrayal proved to all that she is a gifted actor ac-tor as well as singer. The lady was assisted in the recital by Mr. A. N. Tollestrup, who gave the story of each piece sung, and by Mrs. Sadie Thorley und her niece, Miss Viola King, a girl of about 12 years, who is gifted to n marked degree in the interpretation of instrumental music. Miss Shipp intends giving recitals in Parowan, Panguitch and other southern Utah towns before returning home to Salt Lake City. |
