Show RYAN WINS IN RACE FOR DISTRICT ATTORNEYSHIP (From Tho Beaver Weekly Press) The Republican Judlcinl Convention which waa held in this city last Saturday, Satur-day, was probably one of the hottest political affairs ever pulled off in this part of tho state. There was a full delegation from all over tho district and it was evident from the outset that trouble was brewing and that someone was going to get hurt. Before Be-fore the time for opening the convention, conven-tion, groups of delegates could be seen at various points, somo on the square, others at the diferent store corners, gesticulating and cutting the air with their arms, so to speak. At ten o'clock the convention convened and tho real fight began. After the preliminaries were over with, nominations for the Judgeship were in order and an attempt was made to force the nomination of E. H. Ryan, present district attorney, to the nliico. This would have removed the most formidable candidate for tho attorneyship at-torneyship j but Mr. Ryan would have none of it. J. A. Melville of Millard county and George Lund of St. George were nominated and Mr. Lund won out on the first ballot. After the Judgeship was disposed of the real battle was on when nominations for District Attornoy waB called. The names of Mr. Ryan of Iron county, Mr. McKnight of Juab county. Mr. Hlgglns of Millard county and Mr. Woodbury of Beaver county were placed on tho blackboard and tho air bogan to take on a lurid huo: forked tongues of livid lightning flashed and quivered back and forth across tho court room, reckless of all consequences. consequen-ces. Balloting and hot words mixed indiscriminately for more than two hours. Twelve ballots had to be taken before Mr. Ryan emerged from the battle, victorious by one ballot; Mr. McKnight with 36 and Mr. Ryan with i vtrma. |
