Show H THE COUNTY PAIR. ONCE more the untiuul County Foir is a thirty of the jmst, and fr.r the MM most part we believe that the people H are glad of it. It has been rather a m strenuous undertaking all the way B 'round this year, on account of so B much work being necessary to get the B new buildings and grounds in shape. It was a nip and tuck race to get the I building up ready to receive the ex- hibits in time for the fair, which re- suited in everything being hurry and skurry at the last minute. Rut by fl working night as well as day, the cohi- mittce members succeeded in getting B the exhibition in pretty fair shape by the time the fair opened. Taking everything into considera- tion, wc believe that we are justified in pronouncing the fair a success this fl year, though, of course, there was B plenty of room for improvement. The B live stock exhibition was particularly B gratifying, though had more time been B spent in shearing, trimming, and or- BB nnmenting the animals they could BB have been improved in appearance for BB show purposes. But to the real judge BB of live stock, who is able to look bo- BB yond these little artifices, U was np- BB parent that we arc growing as good BB sheep, cattle, horses and other animals BB in this county as can be found any BH place in the state. BB The agricultural exhibits, too, were BB very fine, and demonstrated what Iron BB county is capable of when the soil is H as systematically cultivated as it de- BB serves to be. Finer com, grain and BB other field crops it would be hard to BB find any where. This county is nl- BB ready noted for its excellent potatoes, BB also, and the specimens on exhibition BH fully bears out this reputation. BH The amusements were good, as the BH usual programs at county fairs go, BH but Were not varied ns much as Tlic BH Record should have liked. Horserac- BH Ing and base ball was about all the H committee had to offer. The first day BBJ the races were so tardy and wearisome BBi that nearly everybody was discouraged BBl with horseracing as an amusement at BBb fairs. But on the subsequent days the BBf races were gotten off much more BBl promptly and the people were better BBl satisfied. The grand stand was not BBf quite finished, and leaked u little sun- BBb shine in places, but was much more H, roomy and pretentious than anything H the county had previously had. BBb The enterpriso and energy shown BBf by the committee in providing such m comfortable quarters for the fair in B so short a time was the theme of many BBf favorable comments and congrntuhi- B tions from visitors as well as towns- BftB people. H When the fair is next held in this B city the people will be better prepared B for it, and the committee, relieved of B the responsibility of so much work on B the buildings and grounds can devote BBB more time to the amusements nnd oth- BBB er details, and nuturally can achieve B far better results than was secured B this year; but at that wo believe there BBB is not much reason for complaint now. B The committee worked faithfully for B the success of the fair, nnd did ull B they could under the circumstances. B The thanks of the people is all the BBV compensation they can expect, nnd B certainly they are richly entitled to |
