Show 15 IN early days in this part of the country there used to be a custom about the time the grain was harvested of the children gleaning the grain from about the ditches, fences and other places where the reaper could not reach. The present high price i Of cereals and the general movement for the conservation con-servation of all food products, suggests the idea of resurrecting this old and thrifty custom. We see a lot of boys, and girls, too, between the ages of 8 and 16 years, who appear to have an abundance abun-dance of unoccupied time. If some of the older people could accompany these youngsters into the fields and instruct them in the art of gleaning, and be there to keep a watch over them, a lot of valuable food could be kept from wasting, and the youngsters could make good wages, besides. |
