Affair to be Under the Direct Charge of the Cedar City and Pa rowan Commercial Clubs Big Program of Music. Speaking, Sports and Feasting. Elaborate preparations are under way for a big celebration cele-bration to be held in this city September 3rd, in honor of our brave recruits, who will shortly be leaving for the training train-ing camps. The initiative in the matter is beinp taken by the Cedar City and Parowan Commercial clubs, and it is proposed to make the day one long to be remembered in the history of the county. The first five per cent of the recruits are due to leave the county on September 4th, and the celebration and farewell fare-well ceremonies will be held on the third of September, which is Labor Day. The celebration will commence at 2 o'clock, p. m., with a big parade, led by four bands, from Cedar City Parowan, Paragonah and Enoch. A meeting will be held in the Tabernacle at 3:00 p. m., followed by base ball game and other sports at the Fair grounds. At 7:30 p. m. there will be a grand band concert, by the four bands mentioned above, and at 8:30 p. m. there will be a grand ball in the Ward Hall, with two orchestras, from Cedar and Parowan, in attendance, and continuous dancing. PROGRAM FOR MEETING At the patriotic meeting which is scheduled to begin at 8 :00 p. m., the following program will be given : Solo and Chorus. "Star-Spangled Banner." Annette Bet-tenson. Bet-tenson. Prayer by the Chaplain, Wm. R. Palmer. Solo, Lawrence Adams, of Parowan, Talk, Morgan Richards, of Parowan. Cello Solo. Miss Roylance, Salt Ike City. Our Boys, Toast by Mrs. Kate P. Macfarlane. Vocal Quartette, from Parowan. Talk, Pres. U. T. Jones. Song, "America," Congregation. Prayer by the Chaplain. The program of sports has not yet been fully outlined, but it is learned that a base ball game between the business men of Parowan and Cedar City over 40 years of age, is to be a feature. A number of other amusing numbers are being be-ing planned. Postmaster W. K. Granger and Architect R. L. Jones are a committee on sports from Cedar City, and it is understood under-stood that Mr. Lawrence Adams is a member of the Committee Com-mittee at Parowan, so that something worth while is assured. as-sured. While only five per cent of the conscripted men will be required to leave on the 4th of September, forty per cent more will go on the 19th, and another forty per cent about the first of October, so that it is deemed best to hold the celebration and leave-taking now, before the departure of the first contingent. It is desired to make of this a county-wide nffair, and the people of all the other settlements of the county are invited in-vited and urged to join in the celebration. A committee on entertainment will see that no one goes hungry. While we all hope for the safe return of every recruit, none of us can tell, and the boys should be made lo feel that they take with them the faith, prayers, gratitude and heartfelt heart-felt interest of the people at home. And we remaining behind be-hind should have the satisfaction of knowing that the boys were made to feel that we appreciate their service before their departure. I |
