Show RED (ROSS DRIVE FOR MEMBERSHIP (Continued from first page.) desire to become a part of the permanent perma-nent peace organization and therefore it is assured that the peace activities will be conducted under able and inspiring in-spiring leadership. The chapters will maintain their organizations upon a scale adequute to the new demands to be made upon them and the divisional organizations will be maintained ready for service; national headquarters will have a large and efficient personnel to direct activities. Study is being given by the nationnl organization not alone to problems of international relief, but to plans in this country for enlarged home service, serv-ice, the promotion of public health, education, development of nursing, the care and prevention of accidents, and other correlated lines, which may contribute con-tribute to the health and happiness of men, women and children. Such plans will provide both for world relief and Cot home community service, and thus constitute a channel for the continued and useful expression of Red Cross workers and members of those qualities quali-ties of sympathy and love which our whole people have poured out so unstintedly un-stintedly during this war. For the completion of its wnr work and for the institution of its PWCI program, the Red Cross is fortunately fortunate-ly in healthy financial condition; yet abundant occasion for the use of large funds of money and great quantities of garments and other supplies will continue to arise, but it ;s beli rVtd that there will be no further net 1 for intensive campaigns for funds. The work of supplementing government activities, which the Red CrOM will be called upon to do in all parts of the world, will be upon n great scale, but it will call for human service rather than for large expenditures. What the Red Cross need.; now is not so much sdntrlbutioni of money, as the continued devotion and loya ty of its members. Annual membership involves the payment of onlv one dollar. dol-lar. The moneys thin received not only defray all th administrative expenses, ex-penses, but leave u sub.stnntipl bal- ance for relief, am devoted solely to that purpose. TVThe roll call of the nation is thus eJaW. called ut Christmas time, that ijlrou' enrollment in their Red Cries t American people may send a mes- sage to our soldiers still overseas .mil Jk to the people of the world, that we SBfsaBBsMgssBat ' are not merely foment with seeing our arms united with our allies in victory, vic-tory, but that our abiding purpose is that the love, the sympathy and the intelligence of all America shall be re-dedicated to the permanent service of mankind. |
