Show STALWART CITIZEN VICTIM OF THE "FLU" William Smith, Prominent Live Stock (irower, Succumbs to Fatal Disease After Short Illness. It is the unpleasant duty of The Record this issue to chronicle the death of William S. Smith, one of the solid, enterprising citizens of this place, who has fallen another victim to influenza-pneumonia. influenza-pneumonia. Mr. Smith was afflicted with influenza about two weeks ago, and after the influenza had subsided, pneumonin set in and he has been desperately des-perately iick ever since. He made a hard fight, and apparently was passing pass-ing the crisis of the disease some days ago, but took a relapse and gradually sank to his final rest, the end coming at 5:40 Thursday morning. , The funeral service is being held at the residence this afternoon, begining at 2 o'clock. William S. Smith was born June 24, 1870, and resided the greater part of his life in Kane county, where he engaged en-gaged in the livestock business. He was married to Catherine Carpenter, and seven children survive him, as the issue of the marriage.- Mrs. Smith preceded her husband to the other side of the vail in March of 1917. The 1 family moved to Cedar City about six i years ago, and Mr. Smith has been in the sheep business during his residence resi-dence here. He was a builder and a ' substantial citizen, whose word was i as food as his bond. (H i-.M.'t no ins ...Mm. About ten years ago he returned from a mission to Great Britain, in which capacity he served for two years. The orphan children of Mr. Smith are Lulu Smith Cox, wife of Mr. Dee Cox; Wallace, now in training at Camp Kearney; Cordon, Lamar, Wil-ford, Wil-ford, Elda and Dee, all of whom reside re-side at home with the exception of those noted above, and were at the death-bed of their father. Deceased was 48 years of age at the time of his demise. An affectionate and indulgent fath-jer fath-jer always, he will be greatly misled j by the children, who, however, are left well provided for and with the aid of their uncles and other relatives .will not suffer for material things, but I will greatly miss the companionship I and watchful care of their only re-i re-i maining parent, snatched from them j by the relentless and unmerciful peat , that is ravishing the country.
