Show H THE ALL-HOME PRINT RECORD WITH our first issue in 1920 The Record dis- carded the ready-print service, which is in- H dispensible to the small struggling newspa- H per, which has to keep up appearances and get out H a regulation size sheet, but which lacks the equipment H needed to do the work all at home, and also the pat- H ronage to justify the extra expense whirh an all- H home-print paper entails. The Record has had the H required equipment for nearly three years, and has H only been awaiting that point in the growth of the H community and education on the part of the business H men to the necessity of publicity in their business. H We arc proceeding on the assumption that Cedar H City, widely known for the volume of its business, has H reached the point where it can and will support at H least a first-class weekly newspaper. In order to do H this and make the enterprise safe and stable, it will H be necessary for the advertising and news columns H to be divided on about a 50-50 basis, and we will have H to look to local institutions for the big end of this H patronage. We started out with our advertising con- B stituting 27 of our content, which, it is hardly nec- H essary to say. is not sufficient to warrant the present H form of the paper for any great length of time. H However, we are hoping that our business men r ii- ... . in . 1 1. 1. . .i - 'i ' ' will arrive at an appreciation of what a good, up-to-date paper means to the town and also what publicity pub-licity means to their business, and become more generous gen-erous with their patronage. From two to five or six per cent of their gross receipts are set aside by many concerns for publicity. If earh of our local establishments estab-lishments would spend one-half of one per cent of their gross sales with The Record we could get by in good shape, and would put out a paper that you could all well feel proud of. We hope to be able to maintain The Record in its present form permanently, but whether we do or not rests entirely with the business interests. We are ready and prepared to do our part. SM |
