M COACH CHRISTENSEN M IS IN CHEERFUL MOOD M Southern Utah "Aggies" Hold En- viable Position in Basket Ball M and Track Records, and Deter- M mined to Defend Their Titles. HI Coach Jack Christensen seemed in H rather n happy mood yesterday when H approached "in his lair" on the basket H ball situation this season. In answer H to the question, "What are the proe- H poets for a winning team this win- ter?" he was not very positive but his H face lit up with a cheerful smile and H everybody who knows the Coach knows H that when he is cheerful there is H (rood reason back of it. Without any H doubt it can be taken for granted that H another promising team is in prospect H this season. H The Coach doesn't take much of the H credit to himself. He claims that ex- pert athletes grow in this southern country like apples on a tree. All you have to do is recognize a good man H when you see him. Nevertheless and H notwithstanding; it remains a fact that H since Mr. Christensen came the "Ag- H gies" have made a wonderful record. H In a cycle of five years five division H crampionships have hctn gained with H not a single break. Two State titles H have been won and another year the H school possessed the strongest team in H the state. The record on the track has H been almost equally as good five dir- H ision championship And ft creditable ms. showing at the state meet each year. H The Probable Mne-up M Among the men who are showing H well in practice are: H Wood Urie, Captain of the team, H who is playing his fourth year, lie is H the only man in the history of the B school to make a championship team H during his first year in high school H and represent his school four years. M Preston Wood, who at present i H the only other "old man" in snhool, Is M playing his second year as a regular. M He is one of the fastest men the M school ha had nt guard WW Henry Webster is a new man this HJ I year, playing at center and forward. HJ He promises to be fast, heady, and M possesses a good eye for baskets. HJ lie I. on Walker is playing his first HH year at forward. He moves fast and BHJ I makes every move count. M l.oivir.o Luke is playing his first H year at center and guard. His special H qualities are speed and endurance. ; Grant Hunter is playing his first flHJ year at guard. He plays fast, clean H and heady. H Irving Kyre, playing at guard or H forward is a promising new player. H 1 He is going to play a similar brand HH of ball to that of his brother, 1onoy. BH who represented the school in 1918 H and was given "all state guard" when Hfl the B. A. C. took the State Champion- fHI ship its second time. IH1 Some of the other men who are flfl ,'laying fast ball ami will In- heard Mfl from before they get through high SHfl schol are: Anthon Loot, Charles Wil- VsB kinson, Ralph Perkins, Leo Palmer, HI Otto Fife, Wil) Gibson, Kay Jones, Carlisle Smith. Carl Lnndgian. Doug- lfl las Clark, Karl Knell, Thomas Ksplin, H Karl Gardner, Orion Dalley, and HH others. Hj Although we have more new men ifil i on the team representing the school HJ ! this year than we have had in pre- HJ vious years the squad out working HJ tech veiling for positions is fine H lii tit class. The showing the boys have Hj Diode so far this year is very encour- HJ acme, lor another division champion- BJ ! ship team if not for the state. HJ |
