Show THE "FLU" SITUATION TAKING everything into consideration, we have reason for congratulation on account of the improvement of the influenza situation within the past week. It is now apparent that we are over the "peak" and with reasonable care we shold soon be rid of the plague again. One of the chief causes for congratulation is the fact testified to by all our practicing physicians that comparatively few people whovrcally had the disease last ycnr are taking it again this, and according to a survey just completed by the city health department, there arc only about 30 families remaining in the city that have not had the disease. This in itself seems destined to run the plague ashore before long. But in addition to this is the fact that the number of cases daily reported, have dwindled down from a score or more in the early stage of the contagion to only two for yesterday. yester-day. Under these circumstances, it is deemed safe to reopen the College next Monday, under strict health precautions and regulations. Other public gatherings gather-ings and also places of amusement, will remain closed for a few days longer, until the situation is thoroughly thorough-ly "felt out." To date there haVe been only two deaths traceable trace-able in any way to the "flu" and in each of these there were complications. There has been no death at the emergency hospital opened in the district school building, the pneumonia cases having all done excellently, and the deaths which have occurred being be-ing confined to patients treated at home. It is believed be-lieved now that the hospital has about filled its mission mis-sion and that it can be closed Sunday evening and gotten in condition again for school. There is still one or two serious cases in town, but strong hopes are entertained for their early recovery. re-covery. Considering that we have had upwards of 200 cases during this epidemic, Cedar City lias been most fortunate, the death rate having been held down to only about one per cent. In this connection both the physicians and the excellent management of the emergency emer-gency hospital arc entitled to much credit. |
