Cutting, general passenger pas-senger agent for the Salt Lake Route, and a party of ten of the leading district passenger agents of that line, were in Cedar City last Saturday on their way to Zion Canyon. On their return from the canyon Tuesday a luncheon was tendered them at the Cedars hotel by the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce. Besides the party of passenger agents and Messrs Gron way and Chauncey Parry of the Zion Park Transportation company (Continued on page four) SALT LUKE ROUTE mm ZION (Continued from first page.) x there were present at the luncheon about fifty of the officers and members mem-bers of the chamber of commerce. The affair was pulled off at 12:30 and was very successful in giving the visitors a good impression ol the business men of Cedar City. An excellent meal was served by the hotel staff and went a long way toward to-ward putting the strangers in good humor. Mr. Gordon G. Noble, president of the American Association of Travelling Passenger Agents responded re-sponded to the request of Mr. Mace of the Chamber of Commerce for an expression of his impression of the park. He said he doubted if ,wc realize what wc have in the way of scenic wealth. "Arc wc advertising ad-vertising it enough?" he asked, "or .can it be advertised more widely?" He says that in the scenery he had just visited there is something of 'all the parks of the West. Wc liave the Canadian Rockies the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, Garden of the Gods, Yosemite, Glacier Gl-acier park, all in one trip. He said the Association of which he is president pres-ident and Mr. C. H. Cutting is chairman of the executive committee, com-mittee, will hold their convention this fall in Salt Lake City, and that ;thc next convention will be held ,'in Zion National Park. The members mem-bers of this organization arc all 'passenger agents, whose life work, h to tell tourists where to go. Mr. Mace, on behalf of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce immediately extended an invitation to the association as-sociation to hold their convention, hero next year and to visit Cedar City, Zion Park and the Cedar Breaks. General passenger agent Scott, of Long Beach, California, was the next speaker. "If I were the best orator in the world, I'd have my nerve to try to tell of Zion Park. It is too serious a subject. I can sec as plain as day that you folks .arc destined to be the gateway to one of the biggst things commercially commer-cially that there is to be found." Down in California, the speaker went on, he had seen many towns grow up, and the auto has been the 1 greatest agent of growth. This1 place has the adva'ntagc for auto1 traffic. It has a beautiful climate, 5,000 feet above sea level, a loca tion that thousands of tourists are, seeking in summer. It has all cn-i viable position in regard to parki travel. The next thing is to get the route boulcvarded and adver-, tiscd. As soon as the Arrowhead. Trail gets into real being the people get acquainted with the name of St. George and Cedar City "Well,: you all know what will happen." Make it look inviting. There arc a lot of little things to do. Then sit back and watch the public and machines do the rest. The world cannot sec such scenery without i coming here, and when they do get , started this way the great trouble! will be in dodging the autos. "Now mark my word." Mr. E. M. Corry, president of the hotel company, told how thci hotel had been started and pulled through to its present state, and! testified) that the experience had brought the people of Cedar City closer together. Mr. Charles L. Smith of Sani Francisco was the next speaker and said it would take several days to get together words enough to express ex-press his appreciation of the park if he ever could. Mr. Smith of j Boston said the park has lots of good things for the traveler and that New England is much intercs-; ted in it. Mr. DcWitte of Santa Barbara,1 California, said we have a vervl wonderful park, and to prove his' enthusiasm for it he was going to J try to organize a party to tour the! park in September. When the great stream of travel docs start' this way we will have a good time' taking care of it. The -visitors were shown a part of Cedar Canyon Can-yon immediately after luncheon, then went on to Lund Tuesday afternoon. |
