Show RED CROSS NURSES HELD INELIGIBLE Only Women Serving in Regular Nurse Corps May Join Amer. Legion, D'Olier Says Confusion which, has arisen because of a minunderstanding of the rules regarding re-garding the eligibility of women to mGmbership in the American Legion has been cleared up by Franklin D' Olicr, national commander, according to Lehi M. Jones, chairman of the Cedar Post of tho American Logoni. In his statement, Mr. D'Olier says that all women nurses who served in the nursing corps of the United States Army or Navy are eligibile to membership in the Legion. American Red Cross nurses, however, nrc ineligible. inel-igible. . All women members of the Navy and Marine corps who were regularly enlisted upon tho samo terms as men may join posts of the legion. A women' auxiliary of the American Amer-ican legion was provided in the con stitution adopted at the Minneapolis convention. Membership in the American Am-erican Legion. Mothers, wives, daughters dau-ghters and sister of American Legion members or of men who died in line of duty are eligible for membership in the auxiliary. The Bill Rogers bill, providing for l the loan of army rifles to tho Amor- ican Legion for ceremonial purposes, I has been passed by Congress and is I now a law. This information has i been received by Lehi M. Jones, chair-i chair-i man of the Cednr post of the American Amer-ican Legion. The regulations and instructions civcring tho issuance of these arms are now being prepared in tho office , of tho Adjutant General of tho army. As soon as they are completed, full , instructions ns to the methods of securing se-curing the use of the rifles will be issued by tho national headquarters of the American Legion. Officials of tho Utah headquarters of the American Legion have received information that posts are making application ap-plication direct to tho War Department Depart-ment and to tho different nrsenals.for these rifles. Tho officials have urged that no applications by post bo Bent until full instructions have been received re-ceived by Department Headquarters. |
