Show CHRISTMAS ENTERTAINMENT. At St. Mary's Academy in Honor of Rt. Rev. Bishop Scanlatn. The usual holiday entertainment given giv-en by the pupils of St. Mary's academy took place in the assembly hall on the afternoon of Dec. 18. The programme, a tribute to the Rt. Rev. Bishop Scan-Ian, Scan-Ian, was artistic from start to -finish. The vocal class sounded the Christmas note in the opening chorus, "The Won drous Story," which was well sustained in most of the numbers that followed. The minims, always in evidence at the Christmas entertainment, sang themselves into the good graces of the audience by an action song, as did two of their number, who, dressed in the costume of "auld lang syne," with powdered pow-dered hair and all the florid furbelows of other days, sang of "long ago," suiting suit-ing action to word. The literary part of the programme was furnished by the reading of St. Mary's Journal, edited by the class of '04, the readers being the Misses Sant-schi Sant-schi and Daly, Poems, parodies, articles ar-ticles grave and articles gay, local hits, with here and there the sparkle of wit and play of humor all showed that the graduates of '04 can skilfully yield the pen when in the vein. The vocal quartette, "Love's Old Sweet Song," was a delightful "blending "blend-ing of voices, putting, the audience in tune for Miss Root's violin solo, in the rendition of which much deft bowing w as noticeable. Miss Houtz and Miss Mahan, respectively respec-tively the soprano and contralto soloists solo-ists of the day, the first named lady being: be-ing: the possessor of a silvery soprano and Miss Mahan surprising her hearers by depth and range of voice. Finally, the Orpheus club, with a dash and a flourish, wound up the pro-gt pro-gt amine in fine style, there being heard in the march the roll of the drums, the clash of cymbals, tinkle of mandolin, notes of guitar, harp, violin and piano. The whole was eminently creditable to those taking part. The programme rendered was: "The Wondrous Story" C. Adams Vocal Pupils.
