Show OBITUARY. I,. Root. ,- Hundreds of sorrowing friends attended at-tended the funeral of Colonel "Bill" P.oot on Wednesday afternoon. The services were held at the Elks' hail on State street . The remains were escorted escort-ed to the Short Line-depot, where they were shipped to Laramie City. Wyo.. for interment. They were accompanied north by Mrs. Root!" mother of the deceased, de-ceased, and Chauhcey Root, a brother, who came down from Laramie to attend the' funeral; ; Shortly before noon the remains were removed from the undertaking' establishment estab-lishment and placed in state in the lodge room on the second floor. They were encased in a " plain black casket. The only ornament was an emblematic silver, plate, upon which were engraved Colonel Root's name and the date Of I his death. The top of the casket was! covered with flowers, tributes from the lodge and personal, friends. . At the depot'the casket was deposited in a rosewood stained box. and placed i in the baggage car. At Laramie City it will be met by a deputation of Elks, who will consign. Colonel "Bill" Root to mother earth in the cemetery of his old home, where he lived for many years. - . . . The pail-bearers ! were former County Attorney Parley P. Christensen. L. F. Harr, Fred Dern. John W. Langley, George Nickum. Louis Dittman and W. D. Van Blarcom, jr.' ; "" Young. The funeral of. the late Brigham Young took place on Wednesday afternoon. after-noon. A throng of people filled the tabernacle tab-ernacle to witness the last rites and to show their respect! and love for their dead leader. Before time for the services at the tabernacle, a large number of friends of the deceased called at his late home on Cleveland .avenue and viewed the body , for the last, time. At 11:43 the-casket the-casket was carried, .to the hearse .and. followed by the. family, was . escorted to the tabernacle: General R. T. Bur- ,! ton and, aides, the' first presidency and the twleve apostles acted as an escort. At, 12:45 the funeral cortege arrived at the temple grounds.., Already the . tabernacle . had been filled with people awaiting the opening of the services at 1 p. m. While Professor Pro-fessor J. J. McCIellan played a solemn funeral march the pall-bearers filed in with the. casket at the north door and, carried it to the pyramidal rest. The Congregation rose and stood with bowed heads until the. family and relatives rela-tives had -been seated near the casket. ' As the notes of, the funeral march died away. President . Joseph F. Smith arose and opened the services by announcing an-nouncing the hymn. "When First the Glad' Light of Truth." Apostle George Teasdale, an associate of the deceased, offered the opening prayer, after which the choir sang. "O My Father." A large crowd followed the remains to the City cemetery. |
