Show The serious illness of Hew William Morrin has excited deep fe-eling among the many friends of the priest. Father Morrin is pastor J of the church of St. Francis de Sales in fr'outh Denver and has a host of I friends in and out of the church. He , came to Colorado ten years ago and since that time has been laboring in-j in-j delatigably. Before coming to Denver he v.as stationed at Cripple Creek, ictor and Durango. jn all of which places he endeared himself to a wide circle of friends. He was born in Waterloo. X. Y.. fifty-six years ago, and finished his theological education about thirty-one years ago. Dr. P. V. Carlin is in attendance upon Father Fa-ther Morrin. and his many friends look anxiously for his speedy recovery. Last Friday evening Father Malone preached the Passion sermon in St. Leo's church. The fact hael been heralded her-alded through the daily , press and an unusually large congregation assembled assem-bled to hear him. Hundreds of people arriving before the service began, were unable to gain admittance and were turned away. Father Malone's theme was "The Sacrifice of Our Lord for Us," and he explained how our appreciation appre-ciation of this sacrifice could govern our entire lives. Father O'livan conducted con-ducted the Stations of the Cross. Five Sisters of Charity' and two young women received their diplomas during the week as having completed the prescribed course of training at St. Joseph's hospital. Thev were Sister Sis-ter Domitilla. Sister Rita, Sister Uos-anna. Uos-anna. Sister Marcella and Sister j Coletta: Misses Mary E. Collins and C. i K. Weichlein. Miss Collins will take up her work in this city. Miss Weichlein Weich-lein has secured a responsible position as head of a hospital at her home in San Antonio. Tex. The Sisters will go to hospitals in various parts of the state. It is just three years since the training train-ing school was established under what seemed at the time discouraging circumstances. cir-cumstances. Contrary to the belief at the time, the school has flourished and has added greatlv: to the facilities of the hospital. The staff physicians speak in the highest terms of it. The promoters of the fair in aid of the House of the Good Shepherd are now sanguine of success. The fair will open in the Coliseum hall Mav 7 and continue until May 16.- It is the first time in four years that the Sisters of the House of the Good Shepherd have appealed for public charity, and even now it is not the demands of daily maintenance tbnf nrnmnt ttinm fn tha house is a self-supporting institution, but they desire to more effectually care for the inmates. There is a lack of proper living and working space that retards the development of the institution. insti-tution. The time has been reached in the history of the house when the space in the dormitories has been. crowded to its utmost, and the work room has been cramped by the number of laborers required. Work is refused daily and deserving cases entitled to the assistance assist-ance and practical sympathy of the I Sisters are confined in too close' quar- ters to do full justice to the good wo-J wo-J men and their work. An addition to i the main building is contemplated, and if the fair is a success its immediate erection is assured. Since plans for the fair have been under way attention has in a particular manner been directed to the institution, and the Good Shepherd Shep-herd Aid society has received fifty new and interested members into its ranks. At the fair the programme committee commit-tee is to receive a number of stage contributions from the Sisters in the persons of about forty of the little inmates of the house, who will -"present at times programmes of exceptional merit. Sixteen cf- the little orphans j will present a realistic production of the genuine plantation cake walk. Miss Adelaide Abel and Mr. William Henry Grimm were married at the residence of the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Abel, "744 Curtis street, on Wednesday evening. The ceremony was performed by Kev. Father Barry of the Sacred Heart church, in the presence of about 100 guests. iMr. and Mrs. Grimm will make their home in Denver. : . Xow that Easter is past, the spring school term has been inaugurated. Already Al-ready attention is being turned to graduation exercises, and essays and j orations are occupying the mind of the industrious pupil. The Holy Week services in all the churches were largely attended. Excellent Ex-cellent sermons were preached. - |
