POO more af- j fected and the whole state suffering j i from the suspension of work. j J Recently in Butte Judge William j Clancy of the district court, gave a i ; decision in whic Icsaid that he might ; appoint a receiver at any time for the i Boston & Montana company, one of the ; j largest constituent companies of the j e Amalgamated. The decision was made ion the application of John MacGinnis?. j ia prominent . holder of stock l:i the j properties controlled by Augustus Heinze, and the Montana Ore Pur- chasing company, which has been at war with the Amalgamated for years. Clancy Caused It. t I'pon this announcement by Judge j-Claney, President William Scallon of i the Anaconda Copper Mining company. ; and general manager of the Amalga-j Amalga-j mated issued orders to shut down all the Amalgamated properties in Montana Mon-tana and elsewhere, saying that the 'company could not continue to do bust- ! r.ess when hi? company could get no judicial fairnes in the courts, j Thereupon the. suspension came. ; Since that time the governor has been overwhelmed ith -petitions signed by thousands upon . thousands of citizens I cf Montana asking him to call a special session to naps laws to relieve the conditions'.' con-ditions'.' The governor today complied w ith . the: ;:lmosi unanimous request, j The aim of the s?s;;.r, is to pass a law whereby mining -cases may be taken i from one court to another when the j judge in the initial court is shown to j be prejudiced. Other legislation of like character may also be passed. A eo- ! called fair trial bill, of the character j now proposed, was passed by the last i legislature, but was decided by the su-! su-! preme court to lie unconstitutional on technical grounds. j Employment For Thousands. The w orks of the Amalgamated company com-pany will at once resume in various parts of the state. - This includes the great mine? in Eutte. the smelters of the Washoe company in Anaconda, the largest in the .world; the smelters of the Boston '&' Montana company in Great Falls, also vast in their capacity; the coal mines at Storrs, Belt, Oakdale and in Wyoming; the great quarries in northern Montana and the immense lumbering industries in western and northwestern Montana. As soon as the fires can be started and the conditions made possible '. for a resumption of work the Amalgamated properties will again be running in full blast, the serious se-rious crisis that has been imminent in this -state will have been safely passed and a winter of suffering and I hardship w ill have been averted. Probably Prob-ably more than 15,000 men will be employed em-ployed directly in the properties of the Amalgamated and that many more will be -indirectly given employment in the way of furnishing supplies and the like. - |
