Governor and Mrs. Wells received New Year's clay from 2 to 5 p. m. j Miss Edith Halewill return to Stanford Stan-ford on Sunday, after spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hale. Miss Elizabeth Clarahan left last Monday for a visit to the east. Miss Katherine Johnstone spent the holidays in Logan, visiting friends. Mrs. J. Dederich has postponed her I'isit to her home in Illinois on account sf the illness of her little son. James Salisbury has been spending the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Salisbury. He will return to college next week. Miss Kate Farrell is home from St. Louis. - - - and Mrs. Eskridge of Seattle have arrived in the city and will remain till after the holidays. Mrs. Mary Whiteman entertained this week in honor of Miss Molly Scott. Miss Ethel Bauer entertained at a very delightful card party Tuesday evening of last week in honor of her guest. Miss Mollie Scott of St. Louis. The prizes were won by Miss Edyth Boyde and Mr. Whitaker. Mrs. Joseph Young of East First South street returned from Ogden last week after visiting friends. Miss Lee Goetschins has gone to Denver Den-ver to pass the holidays. Miss Ethel Wilson of Pocatello is the guest of Miss Ethel Anderson. Joseph Akers of Rock Springs, Wyo., has been the gue?I of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Young on East First South for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Dexereux and daughters arrived home from Aspen, Colo., this week. Lee Dinwoodey was home from Stanford for a two weeks' visit. , Miss Laura Sherman has gone east from Denver. Joe Dederich left for the Red Cross company's property, northwest of Nevada Ne-vada City, Cal., Tuesday. He has had advices that the new mill machinery is nearly all in place and he went over to hurry the plant's completion. Mrs. J. W. Neill and Miss Neill were at home New Year's afternoon and evening, and the ladies receiving with them were Mrs. George Henry Tag-part, Tag-part, Mrs. William Igleheart, Miss Starling, Mrs. G. K. Fisher, Mrs.-Sol Siegel. Miss Creary, Mrs. O. B. Hewitt, Mrs. Kate Bridewell Anderson and Mrs. Rosemary Glosz-Whitney. Mrs. R. D. C. McLaughlin entertained a large party of friends at the opening open-ing of "Miss Simplicity" Monday evening. even-ing. The party occupied three boxes at the play, and afterward enjoyed a supper at the Tavern. Mrs. McLaughlin's McLaugh-lin's guests were Colonel Bubb, Captain and Mrs. Pardee, Dr. and Mrs. Hepburn. Miss Hope Kerwin, the charming little daughter of Mrs. P. H. Kerwin, gave a matinee party to several of her little friends on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. N. P. Dooley returned on Tuesday Tues-day from California. Hon. Tim Kinney, the wealthy sheepman sheep-man of Wyoming and merchant of Rock Springs, is visiting his daughters. Misses Dorothea and Mary Kinney, of this city j Henry Young came down from Bing- ! ham during the Christmas holidays to visit his children. Andrew Pederson of Rock Springs came to spend the Christmas holidays with his children in Salt Lake. Miss Mary Shields of the Keogh-Wright Keogh-Wright hospital spent Christmas day in Park City with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Shields. Miss Mary McFadden of the Webster school is pleasantly located at The Halls. Miss Margaret Shields, who is attending at-tending St. Mary's academy, went up to the Park last week and will remain with her parents. Judge and Mrs. Henry Shields, until the opening of school. At the Webster school, Andrew Clark and Mary Halloran of Miss McFad-den's McFad-den's room do some exceptionally fine work in drawing. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Tame spent Christmas in Park with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lubeck. 8- Father M. J. Murphy of All Hallows college has returned from a trip to Montana, greatly improved in health. Mrs. O. J. Salisbury entertained a party at the play Monday evening and later at a supper at the Tavern. Miss Stella Reilly, who left Monday for the coast, will spend the remainder of the holidays with Miss Carrie Sap-pington Sap-pington at Stanford, and later will go to Sonora to visit relatives. A very enjoyable affair took place at Marmonie hall last Sunday evening. It was a Christmas tree for the benefit of all German-American children of the city; given under the auspices of the ladies of the Harmonie Einging society. so-ciety. About 250 children were made happy by receiving, a number "of pretty presents. To Mrs. F. Hook, Messrs. Schmidt. Allers. Rothschild, Eliason. Ebert, Balzer and a number of others belongs the credit for making the entertainment en-tertainment a complete success. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dederich is fast recovering from his recent illness. J. C. Sullivan of- Eureka was in the city last week. He was accompanied by his son Raymond. Raymond is the little boy who won the $10,000 in guessing guess-ing the returns of the late election contest. con-test. His mother is remembered as Mary Shea of Eureka, for many years a pupil of St. Mary's academy and also a graduate of that institution. She is the daughter of the late Patrick Shea of Eureka. Mrs. Sullivan was considered one of the very best mathematicians mathe-maticians of St. Mary's. Her old school friends, and particularly the Alumnae, are pleased to hear of her little son's good fortune. |
