Show TWO LETTERS. . The Catholic Transcript of Hartford, Conn., reproduces the following letter and does homage to the writer's "high devotion o that provision of our national na-tional charter which requires the absolute abso-lute separation of church and state:" "Office of School Committee, "Little Compton, R. I., June 9, 1902. "Dear Sir: By corresponding with one to whom you referred me I find you are a Catholic. As this is a Protestant Prot-estant community, it is not deemed advisable ad-visable by the Com. to hire any but Protestant teachers, consequently further fur-ther communication will be unnecessary. unneces-sary. Yours respectfully, "S. H. BROWNELL." Continuing, the Transcript says: "May his devotion to that glorious principle endure and bear fruit and find ardent imitators at home and abroad, till some public-spirited Filipino, writing writ-ing from his progressive hamlet in faraway far-away Cebu, set forth his Americanism in words like these: ' "Office of School Committee, " 'Balangbang, Cebu, P. I., " 'June 8, 1922. '"The Honorable Fred Atkinson, Manila, Man-ila, P. I. " 'My Dear Sir: By correspnding with one to whom you referred me I find that you and the teacher whom you recommend are Protestants. As deemed advisable by the committee to hire any but Catholic teachers. Consequently, Conse-quently, further communication will be unnecessary. Yours respectfully, " 'F. X. ZAMBOANGA.' " |
