The American Federation of Club Women held its annual state meeting in Ogden on Wednesday and Thursday of this week v for the purpose of electing elect-ing officers for the ensuing year. There was a representation of fifty delegates. The sessions commenced Wednesday morning and were held at the Congregational Congre-gational church. The club ladies collected" col-lected" Indian relics to use as decorations, decora-tions, and the Indian was one of the themes of discussion. The greater majority ma-jority of members stopped at the Virginia. Vir-ginia. They had planned a trip through Ogden canyon on Thursday afternoon. to take the place of the usual reception. On Thursday evening a concert was given, some of the best singers of the state taking part. Among them were Miss Ellen Thomas, lately returned from a course of study in New Tork, who sang Mr. Evan Stephens' Ste-phens' composition entitled "My Western West-ern Home," and N. J. Brines of oalt Lake. The president. Mrs. A. B. Kinney Kin-ney of Salt Lake, and Mrs. Cummings were entertained at the home of Mrs. J. S. Corelen, an active member of he association. There was nothing needed need-ed but fine weather to make .it the most successful meeting of all. A meeting of the ladies and gentlemen gentle-men of St. Joseph's congregation was held at the Knights of Columbus hall last Sunday evening for the purpose jf distributing tickets for the euchre party par-ty of the "autumn festival" to those ambitious enough to sell them. Tt was very encuoraging at the outset, as a great number of tickets were sold. Every one is enthusiastic and busy working for the success of the event, which opens on next Sunday evening with a banquet in honor of the Knights of Columbus. The sale will continue on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Wright's old store rooms on Washington Wash-ington avenue. It will close Wednesday Wednes-day evening with a grand euchre party, par-ty, for which there are 100 prizes, varying va-rying in value to be given as souvenirs. The new Armory hall has been very kindly donated to the ladies for that occasion. w .t. The Alumnea dance held at Toller's academy on last Friday evening was voted by all to surpass all former efforts. ef-forts. The decorations were very pretty, and the dancing and refreshments refresh-ments were enjoyed by an unusually large crowd. Professor 'Stettwell, commercial teacher at the Ogden High school. 1ms organized a club of young people who will spend each Friday evening at the skating rink. The rest parlors have been chartered for their party on those evenings, where chairs and tables will be set and refreshments served. Mr. C. F. Kohn, a popular Southern Pacific conductor, has returned with his family to Ogden and is now living on the bench. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Lowrey left last Sunday evening for Los Angeles, where they will pass the winter. Mr. Lowry hopes soon to regain his health. Miss Glenn Douglas, the first assistant assist-ant of Squire Coop, spent last week in Salt Lake. John McCarty, whose parents are now located- in Mina. Nev., was here on Monday visiting his sister Helen at the Sacred Heart academy. v S Miss Judith Evans of Salt Lake will be the guest of Miss Mary Roberts during dur-ing the coming week. Miss Emma Neilson, one of Ogden's best known teachers visited in Salt Lake Sunday. The reception given by Mrs. G. W. Dalrymple and- Mrs. A. G. Horn on last Saturday afternoon was one of the son. Over 100 guests called during the afternoon. r Jc Mrs. Patrick Martin, formerly Mrs. Horrock. died at her home last week. The fumyal services were held fiom her former residence on last Sunday evening. "It is always fairest just before ihe storm." The football team had better take warning and get ready. Their success suc-cess has been unparalleled, and the climax will be reached next Saturday afternoon, when they play the Salt Lake High school team at Salt Lake. At any rate, they played a good game last Saturday, when they defeated the All Hallows boys by a large score. Every one awaits the result of the next game with anxiety and hopes the Ogden Og-den boys will show the Salt Lakers how small they really arc. Miss Mary Kerwin, who has been recuperating re-cuperating at Long Beach after a severe se-vere illness, is exoected home soon. A very disastrous fire occurred Monday Mon-day night in the H. L. Griffin commission commis-sion house. It is estimated that' the damages will amount to $10,000, partly covered by insurance. John Conlisk, formerly a resident of Ogden, is visiting here from Los Angeles. An-geles. A special train left Ogden Tuesday, 29th, carrying officials of the Harriman lines, under the direction of Manager Bancroft, on an inspection tour of ail divisions under Mr. Bancroft's jurisdiction. juris-diction. The party included General Superintendent Buckingham, Division Superintendent Marson and others. Tho trip will cover territory from Green River to Sparks, Salt Lake to Huntington, Hunting-ton, Ore., and Ogden to Butte. It is confidently expected that Ogden will be made the western terminus of the Union Pacific road. The change will probably become effective about Nov.. 20. It will result in faster train service ser-vice for passenger trains and will be of great benefit to Ogden merchants by inslurlug rapid forwarding of freight. The reception of little girls into the Holy Angels' society took place on last Sunday afternoon at St. Joseph's church. It was a sight at which angels an-gels might truly rejoice. Ninety white-robed white-robed tots asked in earnest, child-like tones to be admitted into the society, and upon receiving an answer in thc affirmative one of their number, Katie Dermody, read in the name of all an act of consecration. Their sweet voices rose in tender hymns to the guardian spirits of their young lives, and as they returned to their places after having received their-medals and badges betokening be-tokening their consecration to the angels, an-gels, the prayers of many hearts wero that they might preserve intact tho purity that shone on their youthful faces.
