The startling news was received Saturday Sat-urday by John Cavanaugh at the local sub-station that Clarence McGrath of this city had been found dead at Washoe Wa-shoe lake. The boy arrived at the club house at the lake a week ago last Thursday, and had been staying there with John Carroll, Car-roll, the manager of the place. Wednesday Wed-nesday Carroll and McGrath had breakfast break-fast together, and the former left soon after for Carson, McGrath Haying he would wash the dishes and look after the club house, but when Carroll returned re-turned in the evening the dishes were still -on the table and McGratb's m was hanging on the wall. Carroll became be-came uneasy when the boy did not appear ap-pear during the night or on Thursday, and he started a search at the ranches around the lake. No trace of McGrath could be found, and Carroll telephoned to this city to find out if he had arrived home. He was informed that McGrath had not come to this city, and he then renewed the search, but without success suc-cess until Friday afternoon, when Dr. Goode of Carson came upon the body of the boy lying on the beach below the old boat house. McGrath had evidently stepped from a boat to the beach, when the shotgun he was carrying was in some was discharged, dis-charged, the charge tearing away part of the spinal column, and death was undoubtedly instantaneous. The gun. an old-fashioned weapon, was found lying near the body. |
