Show CROP CONDITIONS IN IDAHO. j Weekly Bulletin of the Department of Agriculture. ' Boise, Ida., Aug. 14. The weekly crop bulletin of Idaho of the United States department of agriculture says: , j "The first part of .the wepk was exceptionally excep-tionally cool, the temperature haying fallen to within a few degrees of the frost point in the northern sections; the weather having become much warmer nj:--r the close of the week, reduced the daiiy average deficiency of temperaturo to two decrees, the mean for the stale hav'n- been sixty degrees. "Threatening weather accompanied the cool wave, and quite heavv showers oc- j curred !n the northern section on two I days. Dry winds prevailed in the south- I eastern sections. The change in the tem- i perature was very acceptable. "Grain and grass: Practically no grain is siana'.nir in me southwest section-; j harvest is making good progress in the i eastern counties; in the northern coun-: coun-: ties fall sown srrain is being harvested, but the crop being largely spring-sown, is still creen. thoagh the recent warm weather has given early sown spring grain the appearance of maturing- earlier than usual. Irrigated grain is yielding well, but "dry farm" crops are light, and in sotme sections are not being harvested, j Two good cuttings of alfalfa and cue excellent cutting of timothy and clover have been secured, and a third cutting of alfalfa is promised in sections where there is sufficient water. "Fruit: Prunes, plums, peaches, apples ! and pears are ripening earlier than usuai. I Fruit trees are breaking as the result : of being too heavily laden. The crop ef ; fruit is unusually large and of good qual-: qual-: It y. I "Stock: Owing to tlic failure of manv I j streams and springs, th result of light i snowfalls in the mountains during the i . past winter, and continued dry weather, ! : stock is suffering tor v::tcr iiite generally. gener-ally. Kxcept in a few sections, grass seems to be sufficient. It is necessary to drive stock long distances awav from good grass in order to secure water; this condition prevails principally in the central cen-tral and eastern sections. However, stock is reported in good condition." |
