Show A CONVERT'S INQUIRY. It takes time and patience before the seed finds suitable ground to fructify. We have been dwelling on the necessity of instructing our people on the duty of giving at least a little support to our misf ionaries. We were convinced that the message had reached every ear, until un-til a letter cams asking why Catholics do not know about the missions, and then we bowed our head with a littlo nod of discouragement: but with new vim we determined to start the old story sto-ry all over again. It takes time to reach all and secure their interest, but please God, that time will soon be here. With this introduction we publish a letter written by a convert, which is a fair sample of others that have been received. Every word in its is true, but soon the reproach contained therein will no longer be heard. "Why doesn't some good, energetic, earnest priest do for the cause of foreign for-eign missions what is being done for the home field? It seems almost like disregarding the great commission of Our Precious Saviour to teach the whole world. It seems very selfish, does it not, to confine our interest to ou' parish or country? Would that there were something I could do to arouse such an interest in my new found church. Why shouldn't there be a collection col-lection in every Catholic church each year for the foreign mission cause? Thir; would help immensely, would it not? We Americans should tako our - example from the seii-sacrificiiii, French and Spanish priests across the water." |
