Show A MOTHER'S INFLUENCE. The work of instructing the children on the work of the missions and the good results that will follow, are exemplified exem-plified In this letter written by a mother out in Indiana: "I am writing you a few lines in the names of my daughter, aged 13, and my son, Emory, aged 10. They generally have an hour to themselves for play at noon, after which they turn In and work. I asked them to go into the woods with their hoes and dig a few May apple roots, which they might sell and send the money to the poor children of the missions. They did so for two days, but all they could find brought only 12 cents. I urged them to get more, but they tried without success, for they are very scarce. I am sending you also an offering from my eldest boy. Last year he raised some tobacco, and he game me part of the sum he received from the sale." The total sum that this good mother sent was 30 cents, but this was sent at a sacrifice, and the children willingly made it at her suggestion. Incidents of this kind make one feel what good people peo-ple there are in this old world, and how readily the poor are to make sacrifices for the Sacred Heart and His interests. |
