As a grand finis to the first session, and at the fame time a delightful prelude pre-lude to the Christmas holidays, the en-; en-; tertainment given by the pupils Thurs-; Thurs-; day afternoon. Dee. 22, was a great sue-j sue-j cess. With lha exception of the musi-I musi-I cal numbers, which were rendered with j the usual excallence, the programme was enacted by the Juniors and Minims, Min-ims, their cantata being its principal feature, and t'ie frequent rounds of applause ap-plause gave .till assurance that they carried their parts well. There is still, however, another great festival whose celebration is awaited with joyful joy-ful anticipations, a day of hopefulness and promise, when the heart-chords vibrate with che music of loving good wishes as they speed from lip to lip. And amid our gaieties and rejoicings, who is there .vho will not give a few moments of this day to serious conference confer-ence with her.-elf. looking before and after and drawing up resolutions for the better things to be? In this way only shall we 'ake effectual means of bringing into truition all those blessings bless-ings invoked upon us by our friends. To every pupil of St. Mary's, we wish a happy Ne w Year, w ith 365, days full of gladness and good works. And at its entrance l?t us choose our watchword watch-word from these beautiful lines of Father Fa-ther Faber anent the feast in the church's calendar the Circumcision: "It braids upon the front of every coming year .;f life the name of Jesus, our life's dear Lord, and it braids it in those red snowdrops of His Infancy, the lirst blossoms of His Precious Blood." |
