Show I THE WIDOW'S MITE. At the funeral of Father Ubach, the venerable pastor of St. Joseph's, San Diego, Cal., who was immortalized hy Helen Hunt Jackson as "Father-Anthony" "Father-Anthony" in Ramona, a touching sight" was that of a bent 'and withered old woman, who came miles from the back country to place a simple wreath of daisies she had gathered herself on the dead priest's bier. She laid the wreath on the coffin with almost a caress. It was the enactment again of the story of the "widow's mite." Alongside of her simple offering of-fering were the beautiful floral tributes of the rich, but her wreath seemed to touch the onlookers more deeply than all the others. , ' . |
