Show VERY SOLEMN AND IMPRESSIVE CEREMONIES Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation Received by Eig-hty Children at St. Mary's Cathedral. On last Sunday the children of the cathedral pariah " received their first holy communion at the 9 o'clock mass. Rev. Father Kiely celebrated the mass and preached the sermon, which was expressly for the children. He explained ex-plained to them the meaning of the Blessed Eucharist, and the bearing that its worthy receiving would have on their future lives. Everything surrounding sur-rounding the services was impressive. Just before going to the altar, one of the littlo rmnllo from St. Marv'S academy read in a clear, distinct voice the Acts for Holy Communion. The music by the children's choir was very touching. Miss Clara Fafek was the little soloist, and her beautiful voice made a deep impression on all. The young girls' chorus of twelve selected sang."0 Bread of Heaven," by Adams, with mucn feeling. The entire chorus then rendered "O Mary, Dear Mother," by Bordese. At 11 o'clock solemn pontifical high mass was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Bishop Bish-op Scanlan, assisted by Rev. Father Kiely, deacon: Rev. Father Curran, sub-deacon, and Rev. Father Begley, master of ceremonies. The music was, as usual on an important festival, very elaborate. At the end of the mass the right reverend rev-erend bishop conferred the papal blessing, bless-ing, and. then delivered one of the most eloquent and impressive sermons that has ever been heard in the cathedral. At the close of the sermon the bishop administered the ' confirmation to eighty boys and girls. During the ceremony the choir sang the "Veni Creator," by La Hache.
