Show Salt Lake Theatre. Although having played the largest cities of the oast for almost every season sea-son during the past nine years, Olga Nethcrsole, the distinguished English actress, has never appeared in Salt Lake City, and on Monday evening, February 11, will begin a 'week's engagement en-gagement at the Salt Lake theatre, during which time she will be seen in eight performances and four of the best known plays in her repertoire. Since Miss Nethersole's memorable production pro-duction of "Sapho" in New York eight years ago. when she was subjected to injust persecution, from which, however, how-ever, she emerged victorious, bearing with her as the spoils of war a signed statement from the New York jury totally to-tally exonerating her or. the charge of having produced an immoral play. Miss Nethersole has spent a considerable time in Egypt and in England, and in both places "Sapho" enjoyed eminently eminent-ly successful seasons. During the run of "Sapho" in London the present king and queen of England lent the honor of their presence to the theatre, thus giving the play the stamp of royal ap- proval. I Tuesday 1 vening Miss Nethersole will be seen in Arthur Wing Pinero's great nlay of modern social life. "The Secovd Mrs. Tanqueray." This play, differing so widely from that of "Sapho."' will furnish an opportunity for her audiences audi-ences to observe her wonderful versatility. versa-tility. On Wednesday evening will bo presented pre-sented Miss Nethersole's version of M. Scribe's play, "Adrienne Levouvreur." founded on the life and character of the great French actress of that name. On Thursday evening Miss Nether-frole Nether-frole will appear in "Carmen." Her performance per-formance of this exacting part is said to be equalled only' by that of Madame Calve in the operatic role. During her engagement at the Salt Lake theatre Miss Nethersole will adhere ad-here 1o her custom of raising the curtain cur-tain at S o'clock at the evening performances per-formances and at 2 o'clock at the matinee mati-nee performances. |
