Show 'Robber Gets :$425 At Local Liquor Store Entrance Gained Through Door At Rear of Building Early In Morning Sunday Mercenary visitors paid an early Sunday morning call at the Prer.t.r; liquor store, relieved the store'.: safe of approximately $425. Ou an j escaped with their loot by way of the back entrance. The crime was discovered by Policeman Leo Beckstead as he was making a routine check-up of the alleys in the business section. Seeing footprints, which led to and from the back door of the store, Mr. Beckstead tried the door and found it open. He entered and found th safe had been ripped from the front office floor and earned to the back room wbere its door had been blown off. City officers were able to trace the footprints of two persons from the scene of the robbery, through the block and down to the old Mutual Mu-tual Creamery. There tracks indicated indi-cated that the two had driven off in a car which had been parked in the driveway. A thorough investigation by city police and Chief Hyrum Weather-stone Weather-stone and Russell Knowles, finger, print expert, from Lo.gan, showed that the job had been done by professional pro-fessional persons. Cement from the door of the safe, which lay close around the safe itself, showed that a robe or blanket had been thrown over the) safe before tlie nilrc-gly cerine had been ignited in order to muffle the sound. Time of the robbery was placed as between 3 and 5 a. m. following the busiest evening of the week in Preston. A local woman reported to the officers that she had observed a coupe' parked in the driveway of the creameiy as she was on her way to catch the early Sunday morning bus. n n |
