Show RED CROSS CHAPTER ELECTS OFFICER High praise for the record achieved by the County Red Cross under the chairmanship of Mrs. G. W. States was expressed Thursday evening as the local chapter held their election meeting and accepted the resignation of Mrs. states. Forrest Fackrell, secretary and treasurer of the chapter since its organization sixteeu years ago, also asked to be released from bis office of-fice due to his recent poor health. Competent work on the part of these officers has placed Franklin 'county high in the ranks of the National. Na-tional. Mrs. Scott Dunlop was chosen to succeed Mrs. Stales as county chairman with Mrs. Nancy 1'hippen as vice-president and Mel Reeves as secretary-treasurer. Various service ser-vice chairmen who were reelected to office by acclamation are: Ellen Bell, first aid; D. Roe, swimming and lifesaving; Iris Hawkcs, home service; Harold Swift, disaster; Mabel Cazier, production; Mrs. A. C. Conine, knitting; Clara Howard, nursing; Stella Bool he, Junior Red Cross; Lela Roe, farm and home accident prevention; Maggie I'res-ton, I'res-ton, roll call. Mrs. Stales gave a detailed report re-port on the past year's aeompli:h-meiits aeompli:h-meiits and reports were given by each service chairman. Mrs. Howard How-ard explained the home nursing course which began Monday evening eve-ning for twenty women. This course which becomes very important im-portant because medical demands of the army have taken many of the professional nurses from the civilian work. The home nursing course will continue for 12 weeks, making 24 hours of study. If there are more persons interested in this work other courses may be given at a later date. |
