P M. M Steps are to be taken to reduce the dust at the field andon andon and andon on the adjoining streets the use of ofa ofa ofa a loud speaker Is to be prohibited and developments are to be made that will eliminate most of ot the trespass on adjoining property I Ithe However Howe the city has promised the property owners In the vicinity of the park pork that everything possible will be done to develop a new park and playing field Held on which the lights can be used An Investigation Investigations is s under way to determine whether or not the American Legion rodeo grounds can be used for this purpose purpose pur- pur pose rase and what expense the city would be put to In developing the grounds to a satisfactory condition The American Legion officers of I course have no objection to the placing of lights on the grounds since It would make it possible to hold lold night rodeo programs etc However the chutes and corrals must be moved If the grounds are areto areto areto to be used for Softball because the arena Is V not nearly large enough for lor a playing field Considerable leveling would be necessary and since the ground is very sand sandy sandl it would be necessary to do something to develop a hard surface or perhaps perhaps perhaps per per- haps sod the field The property owners suggest that If the city will park and develop the grounds It would add much to the approach to the city on highway 91 as well as provide a night ball field Those who have promoted the development of the recreation program program program pro pro- gram gram in Cedar City and the members members mem- mem bers ers of the Lions Club who purchased ed the lights and Installed them their on the present field are emphatic In their claims that they will not be satisfied with just moving the lights to a new site and that they will wUlin- wUlin In Insist insist in- in upon the development of a worthwhile park or else oppose t the h e moving o 0 of f t the h e lights In fact the Lions Club went wenton on record Monday as opposing the moving of the lights to the rodeo grounds One other request that the sponsors make is that definite step stepa be taken to make It safe for pedestrians to reach the Ole park feeling feelIng feeling feel feel- ing that it Is dangerous to have large numbers of people going to and from froma a park over a through highway The Lions and recreation leaders will strenuously oppose any program program program pro pro- gram that would force the children out of town for daytime recreation and are proceeding with summer plans with the feeling that no one would be Justified in opposing the use of the school campuses camp for such purposes The property owners state that they have absolutely no objection objection objection ob ob- ob- ob to the use of the campus for tor this purpose but that they are opposing only the adult or night nigh nighttime nighttime time part of the program and that their protests are directed not at atthe atthe the program Itself but only at the location of ot the playing field The question has been bren raised asto as asto to whether or not the City Is justified justified justi justi- 1 fied fled in spending city funds for the development of a 11 ball park when an ideal park Is already being de developed developed developed de- de by th the School District with taxpayers' taxpayers money which would l lie e eidle Idle while the city park was being used The committee appointed sometime some sometime sometime time ago to Investigate the whole matter which is composed of re representatives representatives representatives re- re from the Lions Club the Softball Association the City and the property owners will cont continue con- con t nue their Investigation and will make a survey of the rodeo grounds to determine what developments s sare are needed and what it would cost to make moke these developments and to move the lights to this location After this is done the City Council I will decide deckle whether or not the city lis is financially able to make the change |
