Show Inheritance Factors Experiments aimed at fixing the Inheritance In-heritance factors In dual-purpose cattle cat-tle are to be undertaken by the Minnesota Min-nesota agricultural experiment station sta-tion at Its Waseca branch. Dr. Andrew An-drew Boss, vice director of the Minnesota Minne-sota experiment station, and Supt. Robert E. Hodgson of Waseca, will carry on the work. They are now studying pedigrees of milking Shorthorns Short-horns with a view to buying a number num-ber of high-producing females for a foundation herd. More interest Is being manifested by farmers In dual-purpose or milking milk-ing Shorthorns now than ever before, says Doctor Boss. This has probably been accentuated, he says, by the recent re-cent high beef prices and the present low prices for dairy products. While It Is known that many Individual animals ani-mals of the dual purpose type have the capacity to produce both beef and milk efficiently, one of the big drawbacks draw-backs Is that such cattle cannot be depended upon to transmit these qual- Itles to their offspring. The present series of experiments will be designed to correct this deficiency. |
