HOUGAARD Manti State Representatives CONRAD FRISCHKNECHT Clarion , HANS CHRISTENSEN Moroni Warm contests for the various offices of-fices on the county democratic ticket for the coming November election marked the activities at the democratic demo-cratic county convention at Ephraim last Saturday. Every precinct in the county was represented by faithful Bourbons and peace and harmony prevailed throughout the convention. The morning session was devoted to effecting a permanent organization, and this completed John A. Hov- gaard, the well known attorney, gave the "keynote" address. The order of business at the afternoon after-noon session, at which Mr. Hougaard acted as chairman, was the naming of the candidates for the various county offices. While only one ballot was required to select the candidates, there was some fast work by the res-peel res-peel ive delegates. For the four-year term of county commissioner, Ira Overfelt of this city and Frank Maylett of Manti were placed in nomination. Maylett nosed out by three votes over Over-felt, Over-felt, the winner getting 64 and Over-felt Over-felt was accorded 61 votes. S. M. Nielson, of Mt. Pleasant, defeated de-feated Bernard Lasson of Fairview for the 2-year commissionership. Nielson Niel-son received 65 votes, while his opponent, op-ponent, Lasson, came out with 60. Nomination of John A. Hougaard of Manti for county attorney, Conrad Frischknecht of Clarion and Hans Chrir.tensen of Moroni as candidates for representatives to the state legislature, leg-islature, were unanimous. Neither of the three candidates had opposition. The spirited contest of the convention conven-tion was the selection of chainnan of the county central committee. Spencer Spen-cer Moffitt, who had served the party for several years, was again seeking the office. James Willardsen of Ephraim, Eph-raim, a strong party leader, entered the race for the chairmanship and wa3 elected, his vote being 83, while that of Moffitt was 42. Mrs. Lola Clyde Pritchett of Mt. Pleasant was elected as county chairwoman, and succeeds Mrs. A. J. Nowell of Ephraim. Roscoe Cox, publisher pub-lisher of the Ephraim Enterprise, was chosen by Mr. Willardsen as secretary, secre-tary, and Sophus Bertelson was named nam-ed treasurer. |
