Show Auto Injuries Fatal To Young Centerfield Boy Keith Stowe, Ten, Suffers Broken Leg and Severe Body Cuts When Hit By Auto, Dies Driver Held Blameless. Tragedy again struck in the valley, and Keith Stowe, the 10-year-old son of Mrs. Velma Larson Stowe, is dead as a result of being crushed by an automobile at about 4 o'clock Monday Mon-day afternoon along the state highway high-way in the north Centerfield city limits. The boy, after being hit by a car, was rushed to the offices of Dr. Rees for medical attention. Keith's condition was critical and by 7 o'clock he bad passed away. An examination showed a broken left leg, a compound fracture of the right shoulder and cuts and abrasions on the face and body. It was believed that the severe shock, augumented by the breaks and bruises, caused the death of the boy. Keith, it was revealed at the coroner's coron-er's inquest held Tuesday afternoon, was riding on the rear of a wagon driven by Doyle Shaw. When the wagon wa-gon neared the home of Keith, the lad jumped from his place and start-ted start-ted towards his home across the highway. high-way. At this time three automobiles, one driven by Mayor Roy Warner of Richfield, the second by Cloyde An-derton An-derton and the third by Peter Larson, also of Richfield. The Warner car had passed and the second car, driven by Anderton, was approaching when Keith made his start to cross the street. It was claimed by several eye witnesses that Keith, after first starting, paused for a few seconds and then stepped directly in front of the Anderton car. Mr. Anderton made a desperate endeavor to avoid hitting the lad and his car careened near the coping of a concrete culvert that crosses the street at a point where the tragedy happened. When the Anderton car struck the lad his body was jammed against the honey-combed radiator, making a deep impression. One of the lights was also smashed and the flying glass, it is thought, resulted in inflicting in-flicting the bad cuts on Keith's hands. 'The three cars from Richfield carrying car-rying Mayor Warner, Cloyde Anderton Ander-ton and Peter Larson as drivers, were enroute to Manti with a group of priesthood members when the accident acci-dent happened. The injured boy was taken to the offices of Dr. Rees and a few minutes later the party continued con-tinued to Manti. Reaching Manti, Mayor Warner made the report of the accident to Sheriff Ed. Peterson. After learning of, the death of the boy, Sheriff Peterson immediately started an investigation and a coroner's coron-er's inquest was ordered. Tuesday afternoon, af-ternoon, with Bert Beuhinin, E. M. Jolley and Joe Dennison acting as jurymen, testimony was heard from several witnesses, and after a brief deliberation, Mr. Anderton, driver of the car that struck the boy, was absolved ab-solved of any cause for the death of Keith Stowe, the jury declaring that the accident was unavoidable. Keith Stowe was born at Price, May 17, 1922, the son of Bernard and Velma Larson Stowe, and following the death of the father about IS months ago, the family went to Centerfield. Cen-terfield.
