Show Plan Big Program For Pioneer Day Pioneers of Utah the sturdy men and women who plodded across the dreary and desolate plains to find a new home will be duly honored with the observance of Pioneer day in Gunnison Gun-nison next Monday. July 24, 1847, Brigham Young, then leader of the Mormon people, viewing the Great Salt Lake valley from a mountain peak, shouted "This Is the Place." His people came afterwards, and long ago July 24th was set aside as a day of celebration and thanksgiving at the coming of the pioneers. While no extensive celebration has been arranged for the observance of Pioneer day in Gunnison, a splendid program and sports for the children, as well as a special dinner to be served at the new chapel immediately following the program, have been planned. The morning program will start at 10:30 at the new chapel, and will include in-clude the following numbers: Song ,.. Congregation Invocation..... N. C. Myrup Following the program there will be an intermission until 2 o'clock, and dinner will be served in the new chapel. cha-pel. At 2 o'clock a big program of variety races will be held at First west street, between Uenter and First North. This promises a gay time, not only for the young but special stunts will be for the old folks, who are yet gay and active. At 6 o'clock in .the evening a free dance at Cremona will be given for all children. |
