Show Supt. E. T. Reid Will Not Resign At a recent meeting of the South Sanpete school board, held at Manti, some little friction was aroused when the matter of the resignation of Superintendent Su-perintendent E. T. Reid was brought up. Commenting on the melee, the Ephraim Enterprise had the following follow-ing in its issue of April 20: "The matter of the expected resignation resig-nation of Superintendent E. T. Reid was brought up by W. E. Thorpe. In February, 1933. the board voted 3 to 2 to form Mr. Reid that he would be reemployed for another two years commencing July 1, 1933. When the matter came up in a meeting last summer, however, one of the board members had changed his position and the vote on the actual reemployment reemploy-ment of Mr. Reid for the next two years was 3 to 2 against such reemployment. reem-ployment. "This change in the attitude of the board from the vote taken in the February Feb-ruary meeting was strongly condemned con-demned by the two members voting to reemploy Mr. Reid and also by other of his friends. The controversy in the board waxed warm and was finally settled by an agreement to reemploy re-employ Mr. Reid as superintendent with the understanding that he would resign after one year if the attitude of the board members remained the same. "At Saturday night's meeting Mr. Reid said he did not expect to resign, that he had consulted attorneys on the matter and that he desired to fill the unexpired term and would stand on his legal and constiutional rights in obtaining that privilege. A letter was read from the South Sanpete teachers association stating that the teachers were unanimous in supporting support-ing Mr. Reid and urged him not to 1 resign. "The attitude of the board was not antagonistic and it is doubtful if the matter will be pressed further at this time." |
