Show Salt Lake Poacher Is Given $25 fine Disregarding the Sabbath day, the state laws and the rules governing the hunting grounds owned by the Sanpete Pish & Game club near Fayette, Fay-ette, a young man giving his name as Everett Gold, and his home at 'Salt Lake, was caught in the net Sunday afternoon violating several laws, with the result that he was arrested, taken before Justice of the Peace J. E. Metcalf, Met-calf, and given a fine of $25. Gold was apprehended at the game club's reserve by Merrill Mellor, caretaker and deputy game warden, with a nice pheasant and a wild duck, which, from evidence, he had just killed when taken by Deputy Warden Mellor. When taken before Justice Metcalf and the complaint read, Gold entered a plea of guilty, at which time the sentence was pronounced. The guilty man made a strong plea to the effect that it was his first offense of shooting shoot-ing game out of season, and for this reason the fine was made light. In the absence of money, Gold left a good .22 calibre rifle and ' a double barrel shotgun as security. Complaints have been made by many of the farmers of poachers entering en-tering their premises and taking pheasant, in particular, out of season. Deputy game wardens have been notified no-tified to keep a close watch on the law violators and ,to make arrests. The crime of killing either duck or pheasant during the mating and hatching season is something good sportsmen will hot allow, and from now on the "poor" bum sports are given timely warning lest they are caught and soaked plenty by a just law. |
