Show Slayer of Banker Denied New Trial Mendon Draper, who was tried, convicted and sentenced to a life term in prison for the slaying of Andrew N. Bjerregaard, wealthy aged banker ! of Ephraim, on the night of April 12, failed in his attempt for, a new trial before Judge Dilwoith Woolley recently. re-cently. Lewis Larson, attorney for Draper, charged that one of the jurors, jur-ors, before the trial was started, had cpen'y declared he knew Draper was guilty of the murder. The point wa:: forcibly advanced by the defendant's attorney, but Judge Woolley declined to grant a new trial. Ci izens of the county well remember remem-ber the dastardly deed which caused the death of Mr. P.jerregaard. It was brought out at the trial that Draper was constantly seeking the hand of the daughter of Mr. Bjerregaard, Mrs. Ivadell Jensen, and circumstances surrounding the death led to suspicion sus-picion of Draper, with the result that lie was arrested, tried and convicted. Me was found guilty by a jury on July 3, and began serving life sen-t?nce sen-t?nce in the state prison. July 23. I |
