Show GrowingSentiment Favors Water Bond Sentiment for the voting of the $30,000 water bonds is daily being favored by conservative citizens, and it is now predicted that at the election, elec-tion, scheduled for May 9, the bond issue will go over big. Several logical logic-al reasons have been advanced since the proposal was made by the city officials of-ficials to submit the question to the qualified electors, why the bonds should be voted without a dissenting vote. Primary among the reasons is the fact that the city pipe line must be replaced, whether the bonds are voted or not. This fact is pointed out that the pipe line, through long use and deterioration, is wasting water and rotting away, thus endangering the entire system. During the past few years an extra expense has been entailed en-tailed by reason of the old wooden pipes giving away, creating a loss of water as well as a heavy expenditure in repairing. Through the proposed bond issue of the $30,000, payment is provided for a long term and at an extremely low rate of interest which the city officials have carefully provided for with the purchasers of the bonds. In the event of the failure to put the proposed bond issue over, the citizens will either be forced to submit to an increased water rate or be taxed by a special assessment. With the bonds carrying and the rebuilding re-building of the pipe line, securing the complete control of the source of the city's water supply, and putting the entire system in first-class shape, Gunnison can well boast of one of thi best systems in this section. Good water system, where ample protection is offered in case of fire, and where there is an absence of contention con-tention over the use of waters in turn, good churches, up-to-date business houses and schools, are an attraction to the investors and home-seekers. Let's vote the bonds unanimously and get some of the valuable returns that will surely follow. |
