Show Baseball Magnates Formulate Plans Notwithstanding the fact that wintry win-try breezes are still floating "about, the fact has not interferred with plans being made for playing baseball and local players are lining up for the national na-tional game during the coming season. Tuesday evening a group of players and enthusiasts met at the Valley cafe and outlined a few plans and chose a leader. Lenno Rosenvall, who piloted the Gunners through 1932, was again chosen president of the local organization. or-ganization. Further selection of officers offi-cers was deferred until after Sunday, at which time the off.cers of the Southern Utah Baseball league will be chosen. At a league meeting held last Sunday at Salina, a board of control was named, each prospective team having a representative on this board. In addition to the four teams playing play-ing in the league last year Nephi, Gunnison, Salina and Elsinore there is a strong possibility that two more, and possibly four more, teams will be added to the league. Representatives from Richfield and Scipio a'.tended the annual meeting at Salina, and both signified a willingness to organize teams, with the provision that the forfeiti fee, which had been .$50, be cut in half, or $25. Manti and Fillmore, Fill-more, both with good material, have been advised of the action in cutting the franchise fee and it may be possible pos-sible that these two will enter the league, and, with Richfield and Scipio, an eight-team league would be possible. pos-sible. While only four teams were in the Southern Utah Baseball league last (Continued on last page) Baseball Magnates Formulate Plans (Continued from page 1) year, the addi'ion of four more would afford lovers of the great game to see more of the boys in action. Scipio has been playing "wildcat" baseball for many years past, and now has a strong combination. Richfield, though out of the sport for 5 or 6 years, has splendid material and could build up a strong contender. Manti, too, has a 'bunch of good players. At the annual meeting last Sunday in Salina, members were chosen from the various towns in the league. The members are C. E. Andersen for Gunnison; Gun-nison; G. P. Woods for Nephi; Erwin Staples for Elr.inore; H. W. Cherry for Salina; Reno Memmott for Scipio, and Harry Rasmussen for Richfield. At the meeting next Sunday, to be hi Id at Salina, the board of control will organize by electing a president, secretary, adopt a schedule, and pass decision on the make of ball to be used in the league. |
