Show ILocal Poultrymen Get Modern Ideas Thirty members of the local poultry poul-try association entertained three high officials in the poultry business at a special meeting held at the high school building last Friday afternoon, and in the talks made by the visitors, visit-ors, some real and encouraging information infor-mation was gained. Clyde C. Edmonds, general manager of the Utah Poultry Producers association, Salt Lake, Joseph Jos-eph Anderson, president of the organization, organ-ization, and Chas. P. Lund, manager of the poultry department, were the officials visiting and giving talks to members of the local organization. Members were urged by President .Anderson to affiliate with the Utah state farm bureau. Through this organization, or-ganization, the speaker stated, a better bet-ter cooperation is effected and better marketing plans are secured, thus making a better profit for the producer. pro-ducer. This national plan of cooperating cooperat-ing on selling has been, and is proving, prov-ing, a big boon to the poultrymcn. Mr. Edmonds, who has become thoroughly thor-oughly trained in the production of better hens and better eggs, since the organization of the poultry association associa-tion in Gunnison several years ago, gave his listeners a new view of successful suc-cessful treatment of hens to attain the best health. The veterinary system, sys-tem, Mr. Edmonds explained, is a method me-thod whereby all chicks in the state will become blood-tested. The method is to blood-test the hen before placing her in the brooding flock. Through the lystem of treatment the result will be a pure hen, a pure egg, resulting in a pure chick. Mr. Rudd spoke briefly on marketing of live poultry, stating that the crop of cull3 and roosters would be heavy this spring. It was revealed at the meeting that the local poultrymen had set their goal for the valley at 100,000 laying hens, and an increase of ten per cent is shown this year over that of last year. Placing 100,000 laying hens in the Gunnison Valley would mean an income every month hero of between $40,000 to $50,000. |
