Show Heavy Rainfall Drenches Valley Sanpete and Sevier valleys enjoyed one of the heaviest rainfalls Saturday and Sunday experienced in many years for the month of June. Breaking Break-ing forth Saturday evening and continuing con-tinuing most of the night and all through Sunday and Sunday evening, the rain came down gently and the farms were given a thorough soaking. The storm was timely and untol 1 good will result to the growing crops. Particularly will the sugar beets, the main crop of the two valleys, be greatly benefitted. The mountain .ranges, too, where sheep and catilu j have been taken for the summer feed-I feed-I ing, were drenched with rain and the I foliage and grass are already show- ing an increased growth. The rain, ac- cording to reports, was general . throughout Southern Utah. At the Gunnison Sugar factory, the rainfall was registered at one half inch of water. Salina and vicinity registered the same, while at Richfield Rich-field .30 of an inch fell. At Moroni, .44 of an inch fell, and Ephraim registered .54 of an inch. Following the rain, the temperature dropped to 32 degress early Monday and Tuesday Tues-day mornings, but little or no damage dam-age was reported, excepting the tender ten-der garden plants. The dampened condition of the ground as a result of the heavy rainfall, prevented a burning burn-ing frost, and which, likely, prevented further damage. The timely rain, coming as it did, will prove invaluable to the beet growers, and with the assurance of 70-00 acre feet of water leased from the lower river water users, gives the valley beet growers an abundance of water for irrigation purposes. |
