Show ORDINANCE. An ordinance to provide for the construction, regulation, maintenance, mainten-ance, inspection and operation of privies in the City of Gunnison, Utah, and area of police jurisdiction there- of; and to provide a penalty for the ( violation of said ordinance, or any I section thereof. BE IT ORDAINED by the City I Council of the City of Gunnison, I Utah: ' 1. That on or after November 1, 1935, it shall be unlawful to dispose of any human excreta within the j corporate limits of the City of Gunnison, Gun-nison, Utah, except in a sanitary water flush closet or a chemical toilet or concrete vault toilet or an approv- ed sanitary pit privy built according I to the specifications of the State Board of Health, as set forth in Section Sec-tion 3 below. j 2. The minimum requirements of a ! privy are that it shall be constructed, built, or rebuilt that: (a) The excreta deposited there-I there-I in shall not fall upon the surface I or the ground but enter into a pit s or vault in the ground, or a com-! com-! partment built for the purpose. (b) The contents of said com- partment, vault, or pit shall be in-I in-I accessible to flies, fowls, or small t animals at all times. (c) Self-closing lids shall be I provided for each unit, (d) For a pit toilet the pit shall consist of an excavated chamber conforming to the following dimensions: di-mensions: Minimum width inside curbing ! 3 feet. Minimum length inside curbing 3 feet. Minimum depth from ground j surface 4 feet. j The. pit shall be provided with a j box curbing, fitted closely to the ' j sides of the pit. v (e) Over the pit shall be placed a fly-tight seat whiah shall be ven-i ven-i tilated by a flue extending from ' the pit to 8 inches above the roof of the building and screened at the top and bottom with 16-mesh wire. 3. All sanitary pit privies in the corporate limits of Gunnison, Utah, shall be kept in a clean condition, at all times. Self-closing lids shall be kept closed when not in use. Such pits shall be used only for the disposal dis-posal of human excreta and no wash .water or garbage shall be deposited therein. j 4. If any defect occur in the privy which would affect its sanitary con-d:'tion, con-d:'tion, the defect shall be immediately immediate-ly repaired. I 5. All privies existing or maintained maintain-ed within the corporate limits of the City of Gunnison, Utah, after this ordinance becomes effective which do not conform to the requirements of this ordinance shall be, and are hereby here-by declared a nuisance, and a menace men-ace to public health, and the City of Gunnison, Utah, shall have the power pow-er and authority to abate such nuisance nui-sance in accordance with the law, or in accordance with the ordinances of said City of Gunnison, Utah. j 6. It shall be the duty of the health ' officer having jurisdiction, or his duly authorized assistant, to enter all premises as may be necessary in the i enforcement of this ordinance and he is hereby so empowered. 7. Any person, firm, or corporation corpora-tion who violates, refuses, or fails to comply with any of the provisions of this ordinance in the corporate .limits of the City of Gunnison, Utah, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding ; $100.00. 8. Should any provis'ons of this I ordinance be declared invalid, such action shall not affect the remain-, remain-, irg provisions of this ordinance.
