Show q 1- MANTI NATIONAL FOREST NOTES Fire. - October 25, Ranger Ollerton ; re-. re-. ported two brush fires having been .. started by deer hunters in Oak Creek Icanyon, northeast of FairvieWy1 At this writing the . area for the fires is repored as less than, ten acres. It seems impossible to impress upon the Ordinary forest visitor the necessity (.if, 'being careful with fire. Deer hunters, hunt-ers, on all parts' of .the forest have beeri known to go off and leave their campfires burning where they had cleared only a few feet around the fire from inflammable material. The supeiwisor and rangers were kept busy warning hunters against this carelessness. Congratulations. A fine baby girl was welcomed at the home of Ranger S. H. Ollerton Friday, October 23. Mrs. Ollerton and babe are reported to be doing fine. This makes five boys and five girls for Ranger Ollerton. Lion Killed. One of the deer hunters in Manti canyon is reported to have killed a large mountain lion while hunting deer on the south slope of the Manti Ridge. Lion and bear tracks are reported re-ported to be quite numerous over different parts of the forest visited by hunters. . Grazing Notes. . ,A few of the sheep that customarily customar-ily winter in Emery county, are yet on the forest. There are no lamb buyers buy-ers and the prospect for winter feed is the poorest ever. Stock owners are glad to have the privilege of remaining remain-ing on the forest, where their stock finds plenty of dry ' grass and good water, neither of which, according to reports, is available' on the east des-eri des-eri winter ranges. Roads. Road supervisors are complaining about wood-haulers loading their wood along the public highways. Wood-haulers should, where . it is practical, drive off the main highway to load, or clean out the ditch aloivr 'he upper s;de of the road, otherwise run-off is liable to damage' the roads. |
