Show ALL SIGNS POINT TO CONTINUED PROSPERITY ! New records were established in many trade and induslvi'-tl lines in 1925, according to a report ju ;t mace public by the Federal Fed-eral Reserve Board on economic conditions throughout the country. 1 And these new records of prosperity were established under such ' conditions that there is every promise that there will be continued stability and progress throughout the present year. The board especially emphasized the fact that although there w s general great activity throughout the year the fluctuation in price levels, in the wholesale lines was less than in any year since 1913. At the end of the year, despite the heavy- movements during dur-ing the ye-r, 'lie stocks in the hand.; of wholesalers and retailers were hut four per rent greater than at the end of 1924. The amount of building during 1925 was twenty-five per cent greater than in 1924, but the cost of building was no higher and the prices of building materials remained about the same. "Similarly," the board said, "notwithstanding the increased output out-put of automobiles, which was considerably larger than in any previous pre-vious year, automobile prices were lower at the end of 1925 than a yerr earlier. "The large increase in the volume of productive activity in 1925, especially in manufacturing and building, was thus not accompanied by a rise in prices and indicates a high degree of elasticity win jhe productive power of industry, which has enabled it to supply ar increased demand for its products at a relatively constant level of prices." The board stated that nearly all the important industries were more active in 1925 than in 1924, with the largest growth in the building industry and in the production of commodities required in the construction and equipment of new buildings. "Demand for goods by consumers," it stated, "both urban and rural, was sustained throughout the year and was reflected in a large volume of distribution' of commodities, both at wholesale and retail." |
