Show Boxing Carnival Is Staged at Mayfield I Mayfield sports were royal entertainers enter-tainers last Friday night when a real boxing and wresiliiiL? carnival was staged at the junior high school building. build-ing. A big crowd, including fans from Gunnison, Centerfield and Redmond, Red-mond, gathered to witness the several bouts, some of which were fast and real comedies. The program opened with a basket ball game between Mayfield and Redmond. Red-mond. The game was a close one, and resulted in a score of 17 to 18, with Mayfield as winner. The first boxing match as a preliminary pre-liminary to the main bouts, proved a real "scream." Four boys, blindfolded blind-folded and with sheep bells attached to the left arms, entertained for four rounds. The crowd got a real kick from the antics and this number alone was worth several times the price paid to see the program. Fenton Christensen and Ernest Scow mixed for a three round bout and both aspirants showed much class in defense and landing through openings. open-ings. The referee called the bout a draw. Jack Muffler, weight 180 pounds, took Fred Yokel Jensen, at 170, on for a fast wrestling match, Jensen landing his man for the first fall in one minute, using the toe hold. Muffler Muf-fler won the second fall in eight minutes min-utes with the arm scissor and further Nelson. Jensen suffered slight injuries in-juries and was unable to come back. Joe Christensen was substituted and in four minutes Muffler went to the mat with a crotch hold. The affair was a big success and Mayfield folks are to back up the carnivals iwth the hope of getting lively and clean sports. |
