Show BILL SOUTHWORTH ON FIVE CLUBS With Indians, Braves, Giants, Pirates and Cards. Bill Southworth, veteran outfielder, who was traded by the Giants to tins Cardinals, Is now in his tenth season us a major league player. The St. Louis club is the liflli major league team of which he has been a member, as he has also played with the Giants, I'irales, Braves and Indians. Southworth began his professional career as an outfielder and he has played that position ever since. His lirst engagement was with the Portsmouth Ports-mouth team in 1912. He remained willi Hint team during most of the following season. In August of that year he was obtained by t!;e Indians, but he did not take part in any games willi the Cleveland. club. Several days 1 after being obtained by the Indians be was transferred to the Toledo club of the American association. He finished fin-ished that season with the Toledo club and he participated in a total of 37 games, batting .222. After remaining in the American association until the midde of the season sea-son of 11)15, Southworth' was recalled by the Indians. He took part in 00 games with the Cleveland club during that campaign and he baited .220. Late in that season he was transferred trans-ferred to the Portland club af the Pacific Coast league. During the entire season of 1010 Southworth remained with the Portland Port-land team, lie took part in 171 games in (he oullield with that club and his batting average was .S0O. At the end of that season he was signed by the Birmingham club of the Southern association, as-sociation, lie played in lO.'J games with Birmingham during the season of 1017 and he batted .2S". He remained re-mained with Birmingham during the lirst half of the following season. He played in 0-t games with the Birmingham Birming-ham club that season and he batted .::m. During the season of 191S South-worth South-worth was obtained from the Birmingham Birming-ham club by the Tirates and he has been in the National league ever since. |
