MANY LEGION BILLS o. k:d by congress An unusual number of bills sponsored spon-sored by the American Legion for the benefit of World war veterans were made into laws at the first session of the Sixty-ninth congress. All classes of veterans will benefit. Summarizing 1 some of the results of recent legislation legisla-tion piloted by the Legion, John Thomas Thom-as Taylor, vice chairman of the national na-tional legislative committee of the Legion, Le-gion, declared : "Our veterans with arrested tuberculosis tuber-culosis will now receive $50 a month, which we hope will prevent reactivity of their disease through overwork. "All of our war disabled, except those rated permanently and totally disabled, may now reinstate their insurance in-surance and obtain the benefits for themselves and their families which the insurance was created to extend. "Time limitations for the filing of claims for death and disability compensation com-pensation have been extended, as well as the period of vocational training for those who have not completed their courses. "Free hospitalization is now extended extend-ed to veterans of all wars and expeditions. expedi-tions. "Veterans are forgiven overpayments overpay-ments made them while in the service. "The gallant youngsters vvjo misrepresented mis-represented their ages in order to get a chance to fight for their country, are now deemed to have been honorably honor-ably discharged. "The sons of buddies asleep in France Will now have an opportunity to attend West Point and Annapolis through special Presidential appointment, appoint-ment, if they have the qualifications. "An armed sentry walks constant post before the tomb of our Unknown Soldier at Arlington ; and the tomb, itself, will be completed In a simple and fitting manner. "The air defense of the nation has been provided with means of development develop-ment through the enactment of for-'ward-Iooking legislation; modernization moderniza-tion of our navy has been continued, and the army retained at approximately approximate-ly its present strength. "The secretary of war is authorized to allot a representative collection of war trophies to the American Legion museum at national headquarters, Indianapolis, In-dianapolis, Ind." |
