Show School Opera Is Charming Success While Salt Lake has enjoyed hearing hear-ing the famous opera company from Chicago, and while other cities were gloating over the chance of seeing and hearing celebrities from the operatic world, Gunnison was not j slighted in the least when the stu- j dents of the Gunnison Valley high school presented "In the Garden of the Sjiah" at the auditorium last Fri- j day evening. An exceptionally large J audience greeted the actors, the audi-1 torium being comfortably filled and 1 throughout the presentation excelled any of its kind ever given here. The costuming, settings and acting combined to make the opera one long to be remembered. Under the direction direc-tion of Prof. Eugene Faux all musical numbers were highly pleasing and the singing and acting showed the marks of careful training and study. The costuming, too, supervised by Miss Leone Evans, was exceptionally clever. Lavora Beck, as Lolah, Vonda Sor-enson, Sor-enson, as Zodah, LaVar Voorhees, as Ted Harding, Joe Jeterson as Billy Cummings, Avery Beck, as Perunah, Blaine Bartholomew as Somecraba and Berdella Edwards, as the Persian dancer, all won laurels in their several sev-eral parts. To Miss Margaret Tas-sie, Tas-sie, as Nowobeh, the nurse nurse, and Dallon Collings, as Samuel Johnson Jackson, the colored servant, much credit is due for the mirth instilled during the performance. Both Miss Tassie and Mr. Collings depicted their parts decidedly clever and won repeated re-peated applause. The faculty of the high school and those taking part are grateful for the hearty support given and wish to thank the public for the hearty response. |
