Show GOOD ENOUGH FOR ALL A ferveren 1 prayer of citizenship well might be "God keep the school of America American I" As yet, notwithstanding insidious efforts to promulgate peace propaganda in the public schools, they remain, distinctly and distinctively, distinc-tively, patriotically1 American. Peace essays, debates and peace culture are well enough, provided pro-vided they do not tend to weaken the spirit of patriotism. But this spirit never will be weakened if the sentiments of an Iowa school miss of seventeen years become embodied in the consciousness of American youth. Her creed is good enough for all of us.. Here it is: "I believe in the flag of the United States the living emblem of our great republic. "It symbolizes the freedom, equallity, justice and humanity for which our forefathers sacrificed their lives and personal property. "I believe in its encircling 'protection, its guidance and its strength. "Its mighty arm is forever' raised in our' defense. "I believe that it shields us and will continue to do so until earth and time are no more.' Here is pure patriotism, intelligent national understanding, faith in the all-inclusive symbolism of the national standard. It is a faith that should shame and confound the gnawers at the foundation of the Constitution. It is a ringing challenge to the Bolshevist and Fascist urges. It is the voice of America, speaking from the lips of American youth. ' It suggests a summons to the manhood of America to flout an ' defy all the cohorts of internationalism. It prover that patriotism still rings true in the public schools o' America. It is not the phrase of bombast or bluster, nor the militarism, militar-ism, but the fine, free, confident expression of confidence in and fidelity of all that America should mean to the millions who arc sheltered under the protecting fold of its incomparable banner. .
