Show Boys and Matches Cause of Big Fire Declaring that the kitten they were playing "with was cold and that they did not. want to see it suffer, Wayne and Junior Peterson, aged 5 and 6, and Matthew Mansfield, aged 8, built a fire in the barn owned own-ed by Moroni Jensen last Sunday afternoon and the result jHvas the barn, together with a chicken coop and granary were burned to the ground, entailing a lose estimated at about $700. With a gale of wind blowing fiercely it was only a short time gefore the building were reduced reduc-ed to ashes. The boys responsible for the fire, j stated they built just a little fire, buti a gust of wind swept" through . the place and soon the entire building was a mass of flames. .The little hay that was in the barn burned like oil j and soon the adjoining buildings were ablaze. No general alarm was sounded but neighbors gathered at j the scene and aided in getting out aj sack of wool and some other articles, but very 1ft tie was saved owing to the intense heat. Fortunately the wind was blowing from the south and there were no building close in line with the fire and wind. Had the wind shifted either :to the west or north, disastrous results would have followed as many residences would have been in line, and Gunnison's facilities for fighting fire, as well as the low wate- conditions, would have proved fruitless to have checked the roaring blaze. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Willardson aire being showered with congratulations congratu-lations over the arrival of a fine baby boy, born to them Thursday night of last week. The baby is another an-other prize winner for Gunnison, and at birth he tipped the scales at 12 pounds. Both mother anr , son are doing splendidly and naturally "Dad" Wil!ar'ds?r 'is' neglecting his fa.-m and other duties and is watching his coming helper. |
